I enjoyed reading Mike Trentalange's well-written article ("Setting a Case for Trial: Rule 1.440 Means What it Says, but Does it Say What it Means?") about Rule 1.440 of the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure, which appeared in March. He effectively addressed an issue that arises with frequency. However, case law surrounding this rule belies the article's title: "Setting a Case for Trial: Rule 1.440 Means What it Says."

Perhaps this rule could be clarified by adding an adverb:

"b) Notice for Trial. Thereafter any party may file and serve a notice that the action is at issue and therefore ready to be set for trial...."

Or by revising it altogether by adding a comma to reflect that the introductory word...
