IN 1978, Utah's judicial system changed forever when Christine M. Durham was named to the Third District Court Bench--the first time a woman would serve on a general jurisdiction bench in Utah's history. A few years later, Durham again signaled change when she was appointed the first female justice on the Utah Supreme Court. Last year, her historic role in Utah's judicial system culminated in her appointment as Chief Justice of the court. Earning her law degree from Duke University, she has since contributed to the legal education of Utah students, teaching law at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.
