Chicago Revenue Department figures show that the number of parking tickets issued by police officers and parking enforcement aides soared in the month of July. The city wrote 386,000 tickets to cars parked on city streets in July, compared to about 240,000 in June. Although seasonal variations could account for some of the increase, the number of tickets issued in July 2002 exceeded each of the previous two Julys by more than 100,000. City officials say the increase in the number of parking tickets is nor related to the city's ongoing budget strain.
