In 2012, the state-run board of education in Newark, New Jersey, unveiled a reorganization plan. Called "One Newark," it integrated charter schools into the public school system, converting some local public schools to citywide charters and creating a standardized citywide enrollment application for participating charters. The aim was to expand residents' ability to send their children to charter schools.
