CHARLOTTE -- First Colony bought the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce building from Wachovia for $12.2 million. The building includes a 220-space parking garage and is fully leased. Tenants include Wachovia operations, the Charlotte Chamber and Colliers Pinkard real estate.

CHARLOTTE -- Microsoft paid Imagexpo, a subsidiary of Charlotte-based SPX, $60 million to settle a patent-infringement lawsuit. The suit alleged that a feature in Microsoft's NetMeeting software infringed Imagexpo's patent on real-time conferencing. A jury had awarded Imagexpo $62.3 million in compensatory damages last November.

CHARLOTTE -- Baton Rouge, La.-based Shaw Group, an engineering and construction contractor for the energy industry, bought Charlotte-based Energy Delivery Services, a subsidiary of Duke Energy, for $22.5 million. EDS designs, builds and maintains power transmission and distribution systems. Shaw plans to keep EDS headquarters in Charlotte.

SHELBY -- Sidney, Ohio-based Copeland is cutting 90 jobs at its plant here by June. Copeland makes compressors for air conditioners and is shifting production to Indiana. The plant will employ about 290 after layoffs are completed.

CHARLOTTE -- Bagel manufacturer Bageltime invested $1.1 million in a 7,500-square-foot expansion of its plant and distribution center here. The company has about 25 employees and expects to add 12 this year.

NEWTON -- Union Grove-based Gregory Wood Products will spend $20 million to build a lumber plant here. The plant is expected to create more than 110 full-time jobs during the next three years. The first phase will be completed late this year and the...
