Theme: Public Understanding of the CPA Profession

When the public understands the incredible resources CPAs have, our profession will find security for future generations of CPAs. CPAs used to have one distinguishing characteristic: we were the only profession allowed to sign audit reports. That distinction is still true; only CPAs may sign off on audits. Yet many CPAs do not hold the license required to sign audits. They are certified as tax preparers. This "dual path" to certification is confusing to the public. It's important that we provide clarity on what a CPA can do. Only then will the future be secure for the CPA profession.
