A ORIGINS OF THE INTESTACY STATUTE

Any person who dies without a valid will in existence is said to have died intestate. A person who dies with a valid will that distributes only a portion of his or her estate has died intestate as to the remainder of the estate. To the extent that a person has died intestate, the person's property is distributed pursuant to RCW 11.04.015.
