A. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Transfer of property by affidavit (Chapter RCW 11.62) is a method of transferring property in small estates that contain personal property having a value under $100,000 and no real estate. Application is made to the person who, or entity that, has possession of the property belonging to the decedent to pay or deliver the property to a person claiming to be a successor of the decedent upon receipt of proof of death and an affidavit made by such person. Application can be made at any time after 40 days from the date of decedent's death. The affidavit must state:

1. The claiming successor's name and address, and that the claiming successor is a "successor" as defined in RCW 11.62.005(2);
