MELISSA BARBANELL is Barrick Gold Corporation's Senior Director, Corporate Affairs. In this role, Melissa is focused on engaging on legislative and regulatory matters at the national and state level to develop sound standards that will affect the mining industry. Her focus is on environmental issues including air quality, water, and biodiversity as well as on energy issues. Melissa represents Barrick's Corporate Environment Department at the International Council of Mining and Metals where she chairs the Mercury Working Group. She has worked closely with environmental non-governmental organizations in numerous contexts. Melissa joined Barrick in August of 2005 and has held various positions within the company focused primarily on environmental policy and sustainability. Before joining Barrick, Melissa practiced environmental law in private practice and clerked on the Utah Supreme Court. Melissa has a B.A. in Philosophy from Tulane University, an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Utah, and a J.D. from the University of Utah College of Law.

MARK C. TREXLER has focused on climate risk and risk management for the last 25 years, a focus he continues with The Climatographers. Mark was previously Director of Climate Risk for Det Norske Veritas (DNV), a global risk management firm operating in more than 90 countries around the world. Prior to joining DNV Mark directed EcoSecurities' Global Consulting Services group from 2007-2009, and was President of Trexler Climate + Energy Services (TC+ES) from 1991 to 2007 (when it was acquired by EcoSecurities). Mark began his work on climate change in 1988 with the World Resources Institute's Climate, Energy and Pollution Program in Washington, D.C., where he worked on the first carbon offset projects.
