6-4 Pro Bono Duties and Relationships
Lawyers should render public interest legal service.71 A lawyer may satisfy this responsibility by providing legal services to persons of limited means, to public service or charitable organizations, by service activities for improving the law or by financial support for organizations that provide legal services to persons of limited means.72 Note that this rule is hortatory and not mandatory, as the mandate found in the rule is "should" and not "shall" or "must." Thus, this rule contains no jeopardy related to noncompliance. There is one case, however, where an attorney was disciplined for accepting a pro bono client, and then billing her and, when she did not pay, suing her.73
