§53.3.5 PURPOSE AND PROCEDURE
CR 53.3 was adopted to provide trial courts with another option in cases involving lengthy discovery disputes and complicated issues. Use of a special master also has the ancillary benefit of deterring unprofessional and improper discovery conduct. Under the rule, the court can appoint a special master on its own or on a motion of the parties, for good cause shown.
