§50.3HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT

CR 50 originally was enacted in May 1967 and went into effect in July 1967, replacing Rule 50 of the Rules of Pleading Practice and Procedure. In 1977, CR 50(c) was amended to provide that, when the trial court grants a judgment notwithstanding the verdict, it should rule on a new trial motion if one has been made, and both rulings would be considered on appeal. In 1980, CR 50(b) was amended to provide that a motion for judgment notwithstanding the verdict must be filed and served five days from entry of judgment rather than entry of verdict. CR 50(b) was further amended in 1984 to extend the deadline for filing and serving motions for judgment notwithstanding the verdict to 10 days after entry of judgment or after the jury was discharged...
