Richard H Bate is a former Executive Director of RMMLF who has practiced law in Denver since 1960, specializing in Oil and Gas Title Examination since 1972. He is the founder of the Denver Association of Oil and Gas Title Lawyers and a perennial member of the Editorial Board of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Journal. Richard is the author of institute papers and articles on various mineral title examination subjects. He is an honorary trustee of the Foundation.

After practicing in Denver for over 45 years as a title examiner, Richard has some stories about the boom of the late seventies when, not unlike now, there was more demand for title opinions on tight schedules than could be met by abstract examinations. Many examiners were traveling to county seats to do stand-up examinations and misadventures were common.
