§2A.3 HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT
CR 2A became effective on July 1, 1967, as part of the original Civil Rules for Superior Court. It is identical to, and supersedes, Rule of Pleading Practice and Procedure (RPPP) 89.04W. As early as 1894, the Washington Supreme Court recognized the principle embodied in CR 2A—namely, that a court will not recognize as binding oral stipulations of counsel made out of court. See Livesley v. Pier, 9 Wash. 658, 659, 38 P. 156 (1894); see also Jensen v. Kohler, 93 Wash. 8, 13-14,159 P. 978 (1916).
