§2.5PURPOSE AND PROCEDURE
CR 2 abolishes the historical common-law distinction between actions at law and suits in equity and allows courts to hear and determine both legal and equitable causes in one action. As a result, the rule eliminates many complications (e.g., the forced election of remedies) caused by differences between the two forms of action. In this regard, CR 2 furthers the civil rules' goal of just, speedy, and inexpensive determination of disputes. See CR 1.
