§ 19.1 • INTRODUCTION

The intent of this chapter is to introduce nonprofit employers in Colorado to the broad spectrum of federal, state, and local workplace laws, regulations, and principles governing the employer-employee relationship. Employment law is a complex and evolving area, and the outcome of any given situation will depend on a fact-specific analysis of the circumstances involved. For these reasons, this chapter provides only a high-level description of the primary rules that employers must consider. However, employers should seek further advice and counsel about the application of these laws to the specific facts of the particular situation before taking any action that could give rise to liability.
