§14.28 ENDORSEMENTS

Affirmative coverage endorsements are often routinely requested, especially by lenders. (The term "indorsement" is less commonly used.)

It is not appropriate to include affirmative coverages in Schedule B of a policy. Changes in policy coverages and the conditions should also be accomplished by a separate signed endorsement.

In general, endorsements will do one or more of the following:

  • Provide affirmative coverages for risks assumed by the insurer relating to matters normally excepted or excluded from coverage.
  • Amend, modify, delete, or add to the policy conditions.
  • Amend, modify, or delete affirmative coverages already contained in the policy or other endorsements.
  • Delete or modify printed general exceptions in standard form policies.

Endorsements only increase coverage or change the date of the policy to the extent set forth in the endorsement. Endorsements are limited to the subject matter of the endorsement and are subject to the terms and provisions of the policy.
