KEVIN K. WASHBURN, a member of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma, is the Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs for the U.S. Department of the Interior, a position that he has held since October 9, 2012, following unanimous confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Mr. Washburn was the dean of the University of New Mexico School of Law, where he served from 2009 to 2012. Mr. Washburn entered academia in 2002, earning tenure at the University of Minnesota in 2006. He served as the Oneida Indian Nation Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School in 2007-08, and as the Rosenstiel Distingished Professor at the University of Arizona in 2008-09. Mr. Washburn is the author or co-author of several books, including a textbook on gaming/ gambling law, and the leading treatise in the field of Indian law, Cohen's Handbook of Federal Indian Law...
