§6. Appellate review

A court's determination of relevance is reviewed for abuse of discretion. People v. Battle (2021) 11 Cal.5th 749, 799; People v. Mickel (2016) 2 Cal.5th 181, 219; People v. Livingston (2012) 53 Cal.4th 1145, 1162; People v. Winn (6th Dist.2020) 44 Cal.App.5th 859, 866; People v. Kerley (1st Dist.2018) 23 Cal.App.5th 513, 570. Generally, the trial court is vested with wide discretion in determining relevance, and its exercise of discretion will not be disturbed on appeal unless made in an arbitrary, capricious, or patently absurd manner resulting in a manifest miscarriage of justice. People v. Powell (2018) 6 Cal.5th 136, 162-63; Willis v. City of Carlsbad (4th Dist.2020) 48 Cal.App.5th 1104, 1132.
