Eects of disasters on health care systems
serving health disparity populations (NIH)
Scope: The National Institutes of Health seeks (R01)
research project grant applications for the Long-Term
Effects of Disasters on Health Care Systems Serving
Health Disparity Populations announcement to support
investigative and collaborative research focused on
understanding the long-term effects of natural and/or
human-made disasters on health care systems serving
health disparity populations in communities in the United
States, including the U.S. territories.
Deadline: Feb. 5, 2020; June 5, 2020; and Oct. 5, 2020.
Funds: The number of awards depends on
appropriations and the submission of a sufficient
number of quality applications. The maximum project
period is ve years.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; for-prot
organizations, including small businesses; nonprot
organizations; and state, local, special district and Native
American tribal governments; among others.
Areas: NIH said potential topic areas include but are
not limited to: change in demographics (including
migration, return migration and fatalities) following
the disaster(s) and/or public health emergencies and
subsequent change in actual or projected population
health prole, health care needs to ensure access to
services and health/health care disparities across the
lifespan; strategies to ensure access to continuity of
care and enhance prevention and treatment of acute
exacerbations of chronic diseases (especially among
patients with multiple medical conditions, disabilities
and/or complex medical needs; for example, mitigation
strategies to ensure storage, availability and delivery of
medications and protection of electronic health records
and health care system functionality); post-disaster
and/or public health emergency health care systems
redesign strategies; and systems analyses to identify
needs for or best practices of coordination among health
care systems and the health care workforce, public
health units, local and federal agencies, community
organizations, addiction treatment providers, community
resources and affected communities in relation to
preparedness, response to or recovery from disasters
and/or public health emergencies in communities
affected by health and health care disparities.

Rural Telementoring Training Center (HRSA)
Scope: The Health Resources and Services
Administration seeks applications for the Rural
Telementoring Training Center (RTTC) announcement
to train academic medical centers and other centers
of excellence to create or expand technology-enabled
collaborative learning and capacity-building models
(such as Project ECHO, ECHO-like models and other
emerging models in the eld).
Deadline: June 16, 2020.
Funds: $1 million for one award.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities and nonprot
organizations.
Areas: HRSA said the RTTC program’s objectives
emphasize the following: identifying and expanding
current and new telementoring learning programs;
developing freely accessible tools and resources to
support telementoring learning program planning
and implementation; and creating a standardized
telementoring learning program data set and evaluation
toolkit. HRSA expects the RTTC to provide technical
assistance resources that are national in scope and
that will meet the needs of rural communities and
practitioners.
