OK, maybe you do need a cell phone at school. Administrators across the country are realizing that cells may do more good than harm.

About 10 years ago, many states saw cell phones and beepers as tools of drug deals, and made it illegal for students to carry them in school. But state officials are starting to lighten up, recognizing that more often students need cell phones to arrange a ride home, not make a drug exchange. Arkansas, Maryland, and Virginia are among the states that have since repealed their bans.
