Cat Shea is the new president of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association.

Describe yourself in five words.

Loyal, comical, passionate, gregarious, persistent.

Why did you become a lawyer?

It’s a cliché, but I wanted to help people.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

“Life’s not fair.” I used to think that’s a cruel mantra, but it is absolutely true. I don’t always expect things to go my way, and I am able to deal with setbacks when they happen without taking them personally.

What is one of the most positive experiences you’ve had as a lawyer?

My involvement with the Colorado Women’s Bar Association. I have made incredibly good friends, been provided with leadership opportunities, and helped change the landscape of public policy and the judiciary in Colorado simply by being a member of the CWBA.

What do you like the most about your practice area?

The cases in which we’re involved span all substantive areas of the law, which keeps it interesting. I also like the public...
