Century Career Center: Logansport program expands into new facility.

The new Century Career Center in Logansport will cut the ribbons this month on what's said to be an innovative hands-on learning facility.

The new center brings under one roof services and facilities that used to be spread among several buildings at various locations. "The goal of the staff is to try to help all students achieve academically and help them to be able to pursue their career goal with this foundation," says Laura Cain, director of school-to-work programs in Logansport.

Designed by Gibraltar Design of Indianapolis, the career center adjoins Logansport High School. It will serve that school along with six other high schools in the surrounding area. Logansport school officials hope that students will show increased interest in the center's services because of the easy access.

In fact, it is now mandatory that all Logansport high school students take at least two classes at the career center. The idea is to give the students some hands-on experience to help them determine what they may want to major in at a university, or what job they might seek after high school.

According to Cain, the Century Career Center is more than simply a vocational-learning facility. "It requires students to explore, and they will benefit from the experience."
