conduct research, development and deployment on
technology innovations that enable advanced water
resource recovery systems.

development of transformative technologies beyond

Building Technologies Proving Ground—Public
Sector Field Validation (DOE)
Scope: The Energy Department’s Golden Field Office
seeks applications for the Building Technologies Proving
Ground—Public Sector Field Validation announcement
to meet DOE goals via eld validation of high-impact
commercial building technologies.
Deadline: Sept. 28, 2020.
Funds: $10 million total for up to 20 awards.
Eligibility: State, local and Native American tribal
governments.
Areas: DOE said funding should be used to generate
and disseminate data on the eld performance of novel
approaches to integrate advanced building technologies
that can inform commercial and multifamily building
efficiency, demand exibility and building-to-grid
programs. Projects will have the potential to signicantly
reduce energy use in U.S. commercial buildings, develop
new value streams for commercial building owners and
provide the end-use exibility required to dynamically
balance the distribution grid.

Technology Laboratory has released a Notice of
Intent to seek applications for the Carbon Ore, Rare
Earths and Critical Minerals Initiative for U.S. Basins
announcement to develop and implement basin
strategies that will prepare and enable the basin to
realize the full economic potential of producing rare
earth elements; critical minerals; and high-value, nonfuel
and carbon-based products.
Deadline: Nov. 9, 2020.
Funds: To be determined.
Eligibility: Unrestricted.
Areas: DOE said projects stemming from the
announcement are anticipated to provide a foundation
for educating the next generation of technicians, skilled
workers and science, technology, engineering and
mathematics professionals needed to implement each
basin’s strategy.

Deputy Director’s Leadership Guide
and Orientation Curriculum (DOJ)
Scope: The Justice Department’s National Institute
of Corrections seeks applications for the Deputy
Director’s Leadership Guide and Orientation Curriculum
announcement for the update and revision of the
Deputy Director’s Leadership Guide, and to develop a
companion orientation curriculum that can be used in a
virtual setting or converted to an e-course.
Deadline: Aug. 14, 2020.
Funds: One award with a 12-month project period.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities, for-prot
organizations and nonprot organizations.
Areas: DOJ said applicants are expected to: update
the previous Deputy Director’s Leadership Guide to
orient the new deputy directors in their position; identify
and develop curricula to include formal lesson plans,
participant and facilitator manuals, complimentary
PowerPoints and supporting training resources for the
program; conduct a review process of all current and
proposed training materials for conversion of selected
modules into a Virtual Instruction platform; revise and
resubmit the nal curriculum with formal lesson plans,
facilitator and participant manuals, complimentary
PowerPoints and training resources; and use identied
subject-matter experts and experienced deputy directors
to assist in the assessment and update process.

National Sheris Institute (DOJ)
Scope: The Justice Department’s National Institute of
Corrections seeks applications for the National Sheriffs
Institute, the only national leadership program designed
specically for rst-term sheriffs. The institute introduces
rst-term sheriffs to their leadership role, specically as
it relates to their role in their organization and the local
criminal justice system, and as a partner in their local
community.
