Call for Papers for the IARIW-TNBS Conference on “Measurement of Income,

Wealth and Well-being in Africa” October 7-9, 2021, Arusha, Tanzania

The International Association for Research in Income, Wealth (IARIW), in

partnership with the Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics (TNBS) will host a

conference on “Measurement of Income, Wealth, Well-being in Africa” October

7–9, 2021, in Arusha, Tanzania.

The objective of this special IARIW-TNBS conference will be to advance our

understanding on issues related to measuring, in the African context:

• Service sector output in emergent economies;

• Inequality in the income and wealth distribution;

• Non-market production and intra-household distribution;

• Gender inequality and gender accounting;

• Poverty, vulnerability and social exclusion;

• Economic insecurity and economic well-being;

• Environmental impacts of economic activity;

• Inter-generational distribution;

• National accounts, prices and productivity.

Papers which examine past experiences, clarify current trends, and identify

future measurement challenges are welcomed. Papers may be on specific coun-

tries of the region, comparisons between two or more countries in the region,

or comparisons between countries of the region and other parts of the world.

Methodological papers on key economic measurement problems which are partic-

ularly relevant to the region are especially welcome. The Program Committee will

also select keynote speakers and special panels to discuss issues of special relevance

in the African context.

Persons interested in presenting a paper at the conference are invited to submit

a proposal (maximum 1,000 words) by February 28, 2021. To submit a proposal,

please use this link. We also welcome proposals for panel sessions and suggestions

for keynote speakers, which should be sent to Lars Osberg, Chair of the Program

Committee, at lars.osberg@dal.ca. Decisions on accepted proposals will be made

by the Program Committee by March 31, 2021. The deadline for the submission of

full papers to the IARIW secretariat for posting on the IARIW website is August

31, 2021. Selected papers from this conference will be published in a supplementary

issue of the Review of Income and Wealth (RIW). All submissions are subject to

the standard RIW refereeing procedures. There is no registration fee for the con-

ference, but all delegates, must be IARIW members, either through individual or

institutional membership, or join the IARIW Delegates are responsible for their
