Three endangered species--the California red-legged frog, the least Bell's vireo and the Southwestern willow flycatcher--are safer now, thanks to the Safe Harbor agreement signed between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Robert Mondavi Corp.

The agreement is only the third in California and the first to be signed by a California winery.

The legally binding agreements restore habitat for endangered species, while at the same time allowing landowners to use their property without fear of reprisal.

Developed in 1995 by Environmental Defense, Safe Harbor agreements represent a new generation of conservation, making habitat enhancement easier and more attractive to landowners.
