Air Force cadets complete Washington internships, enter final year at academy.

Two Air Force Academy cadets spent the summer interning at the National Defense Industrial Association's national headquarters, in Arlington, Va. Both Lena Byrne and Andrew Heidel have excelled in their areas of study and are entering their last year at the academy.

Byrne, an intern at National Defense, spent her six weeks reporting and writing about defense issues in Washington. She wrote an article on electronic jamming aircraft, which is featured this month. She is majoring in English with a concentration in law. This fall, she will edit a legal research journal published by the Air Force Academy.

She is also the cadet-in-charge of the Equestrian Team. Once Byrne graduates in May 2003, she plans to be an aircraft maintenance officer, and intends to eventually enter law school.
