College students faced with the task of declaring a major this fall may benefit from the results of a survey of 150 executives from among the nation's largest companies, sponsored by Accountemps, a temporary staffing service for accounting, finance, and bookkeeping. Forty-eight percent ranked business administration as the area of study that best prepares students for future success in the workplace. Computer science came in a distant second at 18%.

"A business administration degree provides graduates with a solid foundation in business operations and an excellent springboard for a corporate career," according to Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps. "The rapid increase in new business start-ups and expansion of existing operations are making a business education particularly valuable."
