Knowledge management is a systematic process through which organizations gain insight and understanding from their own experiences. Knowledge management is a complex field and, as such, many knowledge managers are susceptible to an intense form of stress known as knowledge management burnout--a condition of physical or emotional exhaustion resulting from long-term stress or frustration. Burnout develops gradually as the creativity and effectiveness of employees erodes into fatigue, skepticism, and an inability to function productively because their commitment fails to produce an expected result or reward.
