There was a significant increase in building permit valuations in Anchorage during the month of April 2005. The combined residential and commercial permits were valued at $74.69 million in April 2005 compared to $61.07 million in April 2004. This represents a 22.3 percent increase in only one year.

Breaking the permits down to the individual categories of residential and commercial permits reveals an even more interesting statistic. Valuations for commercial building permits in Anchorage increased more than 50 percent in the last year from $29.54 million in April 2004 to $44.32 million in April 2005.
