Supreme Court appoints former law professor to Board of Bar Examiners

The Wisconsin Supreme Court last week appointed Attorney Glenn E. Carr, a former assistant professor of law at Howard University Law School in Washington, D.C., to the Board of Bar Examiners (BBE). Carr, a Wisconsin native, is currently commissioner of personnel for the City of Chicago Department of Personnel, a position he has held since 1989.

Carrs appointment runs through Dec. 31, 2004, at which time he will be eligible to serve one additional three-year term. He is one of eight lawyers on the BBE; the other three seats are reserved for non-lawyers.

Carr has had a lengthy and varied career that began in 1963 when then-Sen. Gaylord Nelson appointed him as a police officer at the U.S. Capitol. After graduating from Howard University Law School, where he was editor of the Howard Law Journal, Carr worked briefly as a staff attorney at the Milwaukee Legal Aid Society before returning to Washington to work on poverty law issues. Carr returned to Milwaukee for five years, working in private practice, before moving to Chicago. While in Milwaukee, he was counsel of record on the federal City of Milwaukee school desegregation case.
