Informants told Atlanta police that 17-year-old Awot Gebreyesus had bragged about killing a man who had recently been murdered. Three people said Gebreyesus was with them at the time of the murder, but he was arrested and jailed anyway, largely because police found what they thought was blood on one of his T-shirts.

Las Vegas police officer Ryan McCulloch has racked up three DUI offenses in 18 months. The first time he was stopped, after crashing into a parked car, he tested at twice the legal limit for blood alcohol He wasn't arrested, but was given a misdemeanor citation, which was later dismissed by prosecutors. After his second offense, McCulloch did have his license revoked and was temporarily suspended. But after the suspension was lifted, he returned to work and continued to drive a police cruiser, despite having no license. Officials insist he hasn't received preferential treatment because he's a cop.
