Recent DU grad and PR pro turned fashion entrepreneur Kael Robinson discovered the traditional Brazilian fithas--Portugese for ribbons--in October 2006. Originating two centuries ago in the "funky, mystical" city of Bahia, the ribbons bear a slogan that translates, "In remembrance of our Patron Saint and good luck in life." The wearer makes a wish for each of the three knots made when tying it on their wrist. The wishes supposedly come true to those who wear their ribbon until it naturally disintegrates, explains Robinson--usually about nine months. In a year, Robinson has gone from importing batches of 100 to an exclusive U.S. deal for her brand, Brazilets--and monthly orders of 100,000 from a manufacturer in Brazil. "We're...
