Government

The president has nominated Navy Vice Adm. Scott A. Fry for assignment as director, Joint Staff. Fry currently is serving as director for operations, J3, Joint Staff.

Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Peter Pace will be promoted to general, with assignment as commander-in-chief, U.S. Southern Command. Presently, Pace is serving as commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Atlantic; commanding general, Fleet Marine Forces Atlantic; commander, Marine Corps Bases Atlantic; commander, U.S. Marine Forces Europe; commanding general, Fleet Marine Forces Europe; and commander, U.S. Marine Forces Southern Command.

U.S. Army National Guard Brig. Gen. H. Steven Blum has been nominated for promotion to major general. Currently, Blum is serving as commander, 29th Infantry Division (Light), at Fort Belvoir, Va.

The president has nominated U.S. Army National Guard Brig. Gen. David P. Rataczak for promotion to major general. Rataczak presently is assigned as the adjutant general, Arizona National Guard, in Phoenix.

U.S. Army National Guard Col. George J. Robinson has been nominated for appointment to brigadier general. Robinson currently is assigned as chief of staff, California State Area Command, in Sacramento, Calif.

The president has nominated Army Maj. Gen. James B. Peake for promotion to lieutenant general, with assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Medical Command/the Surgeon General, U.S. Army, in Falls Church, Va. Currently, Peake is serving as acting commanding general, U.S. Army Medical Command, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

The president has nominated Army Maj. Gen. Joseph K. Kellogg for promotion to lieutenant general, with assignment as director of command, control, communications and computer ([C.sup.4]) systems, J6, Joint staff Kellogg is presently serving as assistant deputy chief of staff for operations and plans, U.S. Army.

Army Lt. Gen. Donald Kerrick has been nominated for assignment as deputy assistant to the president for national security affairs and deputy national security advisor. Kerrick currently is serving as assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The president has nominated Navy Rear Adm. Paul G. Gaffney for promotion to vice admiral, with assignment as president, National Defense University. Gaffney currently is serving as chief of naval research and director, test and evaluation and technology requirements, N091.
