Boring Bob?

I read Bob Herbert ("Why Is Bob Herbert Boring?" by T. A. Frank, October). He is one of my favorite columnists. I've found his analysis to be reliable, and I respect the fact that he addresses problems that his more popular peers often ignore. And he does it without glitz--something else I appreciate.

You called attention to a number of factors that may stand in the way of his receiving more recognition. I'd like to add two: 1) His writing calls attention to the people he covers rather than to himself. 2) He is African American.
