The 100 Best Business Books of All Time: What They Say, How They Matter, and How They Can Help You. By Jack Covert and Todd Sattersten. Portfolio, 344 pages. $25.95.

The basic concept here is pretty simple: the authors have selected 100 books going back generations (though most of them are relatively recent) and have anointed them as the best of all time. It's a great list, and like all lists, subject to argument and bombast about what is and isn't included.

Each book gets a couple of pages of synopsis treatment. They are organized under a series of almost a dozen logical headings that include leadership, marketing and sales, entrepreneurship, strategy, management and big ideas. At the end of each review, there is a list of related books, both from the top 100 list and others outside it.
