It is an alarming tendency of modern "historians" to ignore larger themes and fixate instead upon the threads or minor points, and then use those threads to upend everything everyone else had ever had to say on the subject ("How Jewish Was He?" March/April 2016). Benjamin Disraeli was a politician, and a masterful one at that. Of course he viewed people and policies as chess pieces to be moved about.
