Gary K. Widmer, Restrictive Trade Practices and Mergers,
Sydney,
Australia:
Law Book Co., Ltd. (1977), 144 pp.,
$9.50 Australian.
This book is too small to cope with its
variety
of topics.
It
tries to cover the economics of
antitrust,
the development
of the law of
restraint
of
trade
in the English-speaking world,
the content of the Australian law of 1974, merger law in the
United States, the economic criteria of
merger
analysis, sum-
maries of 25 Australian merger decisions, decisions by the
High Court in two cases, pending proposals to amend the
law, and the functions of the various bodies
that
apply the
law. The resulting exposition is too brief, allusive, and epi-
sodic to be useful to a foreign reader
not
well acquainted with
the Australian scene.
