C.P.A. LAW REVIEW, FIFTH EDITION
Joseph L. Frascona. Homewood, Illinois: Richard D. Irwin, Inc.,
1977. Pp. 915.
For the better part of the last eighteen years or more there has
been only one textbook on business law designed specifically for
the C.P.A. candidate. All other books written during this period
and designed for this purpose would have to be classified as out-
lines
or
reviews.
Dr.
Frascona, in his fifth edition, has continued
the textbook approach.
Like his previous editions, the book has numerous highlights
which are designed not only to prepare the C.P.A. candidate for
the business law portion
of
the Uniform Certified Public Accoun-
tant Examination, but also to serve as a handy up-to-date refer-
ence for use by members of the accounting profession performing
services in a changing legal environment.
In reviewing a revision or an edition of
a
previous text, one
cannot help but make comparisons. There is
a
retention of many
features of the author’s previous edition.
For
example, the text
begins,
as
did the fourth edition, with a frequency chart showing
what branches
(or
areas) of law were covered in C.P.A. examina-
tions given from November 1969 to May 1976. The chart differs
from those in other books recently published in that each ques-
tion given during this period is listed under a branch
of
law by
the number under which the question appeared in that exam.
Most others only refer to the type of question asked (objective,
multiple-choice
or
essay) or simply indicate that a question
was
asked concerning that area.
For
those who have old exams, the
author’s approach implies the type of question (for example
1
(10)
is obviously an objective question) and gives an immediate and
specific reference to a branch
of
law covered without having to
read the entire exam.
