Press manufacturer Bobst, along with its REVO Partners, hosted its Label & Packaging Innovation event, April 1-4, 2019, at the company's facility in Florence, Italy. The event attracted more than 600 customers, brand owners, industry suppliers, as well journalists and media from around the world, among them L&NW editor Steve Katz. Demonstrations spanned Bobst. Mouvent and the REVO team partners, and showed several world premieres and new technologies live.
The DigiFlexo innovations presented by Bobst and its 12 REVO partners, along with Mouvent digital inkjet printing, aim to fulfill brand owners' needs and solve converters' challenges. "The game-changing solutions will set a new course for the industry's future," said Stephan Marz, head of Business Unit Web-fed, Bobst Group. "Bobst innovates and collaborates with premium partners in labels and packaging. This helps us to be agile and proactive towards the fast changes happening in our industry."
Highlighting the event was the premiere of a new ink on demand (loD) system and closed-loop, inline color matching technology for narrow web flexo presses. Explained Bobst's Federico d'Anunzio, the new technologies "establish a new benchmark in the market, while reducing costs and environmental burdens."
Demonstrations on a Bobst M5 narrow web press showed how the inking system significantly reduces the amount of ink circulating in each print station and features a faster cleaning process which minimizes manual handling of the dirty ink roller. Called Ink on Demand, or loD, the inking system replaces conventional inking reservoirs with a single rubber pipe that dispenses 30 grams of ink to the print unit. The system eliminates ink trays and chambered doctor blades.
