Board v. Farnham, 394 F.3d 469 (7th Cir. 2005). Arrestees who were detained in a county jail following their arrest on murder charges brought a civil rights action against a county sheriff and jail staff following their acquittal and release from jail. The district court denied summary judgment for the defendants and they appealed. The appeals court affirmed. The appeals court held that the sheriff was not entitled to qualified immunity on the claim that he violated a detainee's right to receive adequate attention for a serious medical condition, when he allegedly deprived one detainee of toothpaste for over three weeks and another detainee for over 113 days. One detainee suffered dental pain throughout his incarceration and had to have several teeth extracted because of tooth decay...
