BUILDING ON THE STRENGTHS OF Indiana University and leveraging the resources and expertise of local entrepreneurs, Bloomington is emerging as a leader in technology development. Local economic development initiatives have recently led to the formation of a venture capital fund, the development of local technology infrastructure, plans for a technology incubator, and enhancements to the entrepreneurial culture. Bloomington Economic Development Corp. has served as a catalyst for long-term economic development and program planning that also includes support for business clusters, including the Bloomington Life Sciences Partnership and the Bloomington Information Technology Sector.

Bloomington Life Sciences Partnership--The Bloomington Life Sciences Partnership was formed in 2002 by Bloomington Mayor John Fernandez to bring together the leaders of local life science, medical and health-related entities for collaboration. The Partnership serves as a conduit to plug Bloomington into BioCrossroads and to enhance technology commercialization efforts in the Bloomington area.

Members of the Partnership represent area businesses including: Cook, Baxter, Biomedix, Boston Scientific and KP Pharmaceuticals.

Other members include: Indiana University, Ivy Tech State College, Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship, the Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute, Bloomington Hospital and Healthcare System, Internal Medicine Associates, the City of Bloomington, Monroe County and the Bloomington Economic Development Corp.
