It was great to see that you went to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area ("Epic Struggles," by Ruth Conniff, September issue). We raised our kids canoeing and camping in the Boundary Waters for many summers. We shared food involuntarily with bears twice, and dipped a cup in the lake whenever we needed a drink. Last I heard, you can't do that anymore.
