Mehria Azizi, 20, was one of the first women in Afghanistan to train as a journalist after the fall of the Taliban in 2001. Her documentary on the struggles of Afghan women, Afghanistan Unveiled, will be shown on PBS in November. UPFRONT asked Azizi about making the film, and what lies ahead for her country.

How did Afghans react to your all-female film crew?

A lot of people are uneducated, and they do not think that a woman should talk in front of the camera. [Many other] people ... are proud of our job. They say it's good that everybody should know about Afghanistan and our difficulties.

Was it a problem for you to wear only a head scarf, and not the face-covering burka?

Some [men] said, "Why you haven't any burka? It's too bad for you." I say if my heart is...
