In April, President Donald Trump proposed calling up the National Guard to shore up security on the Southwest border. This has precedent. In 2007, National Defense traveled to Arizona to observe Operation Jump Start after then-President George W. Bush said troops were needed to fill gaps until the Border Patrol had built up its numbers.
