The Admiral W H. P. Blandy Prize is awarded annually to the most proficient midshipman of the U. S. Naval Academy graduating class in all aspects of systems engineering, evidenced by academic and research proficiency in the systems engineering curriculum.

Midshipman, now Ensign Emily Ann Markel, of West Chester, Penn., is the 2001 recipient of the Blandy Prize. Markel not only earned five prestigious awards upon graduating with the Naval Academy class of 2001, she also graduated with the highest overall academic standing.

Blandy was a former vice president and director of one of NDIA's predecessor organizations, the American Ordnance Association (AOA). He graduated number one in the academy's class of 1913.
