Dropping out of high school is related to a number of negative outcomes, according to a report from the National Center for Education Statistics, Washington, D.C. For example, the median income of persons ages 18 through 67 who have not completed high school is roughly $25,000, compared to $46,000 for those in that age group who completed high school or attained a GED. In addition, dropouts age 25 and older report being in worse health than adults who are not dropouts, and are more likely to rely on Medicaid, Medicare, and welfare.
