Net income at Colombia's largest bank jumped more than 180% during the third quarter to US$43.4 million on increased revenues resulting from higher interest rates. The bank says it will open its first U.S. branch in Miami.

Banco Itau showed net income gains of 41% during the quarter, to US$270 million. The Brazilian bank, the No. 2 private financial institution in the country, has finished its merger with Brazil's BBA Creditanstalt, creating the largest wholesale bank in the country.
