The Atlanta Bar Association launched its new year in June after holding its annual meeting in May featuring installation of its 2024-25 board of directors and presentation of its annual awards. The members of the 2024-25 Atlanta Bar Association Executive Committee are President Emily Ward, Continuum Legal Group; President-Elect E. Tyron Brown, Hawkins Parnell &Young; Secretary Betsy Griswold, Intercontinental Hotel Group; Treasurer Kevin Patrick, Kevin Patrick Law; Immediate Past President Amy Cheng, Nelson Mullins Riley &Scarborough; Atlanta Council of Younger Lawyers President Samantha Skolnick, Alston &Bird. Hon. Diane E. Bessen, judge, State Court of Fulton County, and Harry J. Winograd, principal at Bodker, Ramsey, Andrews, Wino-grad &Wildstein, P.C., received the Charles E. Watkins Award for distinctive and sustained service. It is the highest award bestowed by the Atlanta Bar Association.

Vivien F. Peaden, a technology and privacy attorney at Baker Donelson, earned the Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) credential from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). Peaden is among the first cohort of AI governance professionals who passed the first in-person AIGP exam hosted by the IAPP at the Global Privacy Summit in April. The AIGP credential demonstrates an individual's knowledge in promoting transparency, trust and safety in the development and deployment of AI systems.

Lisa Haldar, a partner at Lawrence &Bundy, was invited to join the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA) as a fellow. The LCA is an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society that is limited to fewer than one-half of 1% of lawyers in the country, each of whom has been vetted for skills, expertise and service.

The Georgia Defense Lawyers Association (GDLA) announced William T. "Bill" Casey Jr., of Swift, Currie, McGhee &Hiers, LLP, Atlanta, was sworn in as president during its 57th GDLA Annual Meeting in June. Other officers installed were PresidentElect Ashley Rice of Waldon Adelman Castilla McNamara &Prout, LLP, Atlanta; Treasurer Martin A. "Marty" Levinson of Hawkins Parnell &Young, LLP, Atlanta; and Secretary Tracy O'Connell of Ellis Painter, LLP, Savannah. Jason D. Lewis of Chambless, Higdon, Richardson, Katz &Griggs, LLP, Macon, was promoted to vice president and the following were elected to the board of directors: Jacob E. "Jake" Daly of Freeman Mathis &Gary, LLP, Atlanta; Beverly G. O'Hearn of Lueder, Larkin &Hunter, LLC, Savannah; and Shepard R. "Shep" Smith of James Bates Brannan Groover, LLP, Athens. The GDLA Distinguished Service Award, the highest accolade given to recognize meritorious and extended service to the mission and goals of the Association, was presented to GDLA Past President W. Melvin Haas III of Constangy, Brooks, Smith &Prophete, LLP, Macon. Elissa B. Haynes of Freeman Mathis &Gary, LLP, Atlanta, was honored with the President's Award for her many years of service chairing GD-LA's Amicus Curiae Committee. GDLA is committed to advancing the civil defense bar by providing training and resources, facilitating communication, and offering networking to more than 1,150 members.
