Baseball team hits grand slam in giving back.

The High Point University baseball team has continued its effort to have a positive impact on the High Point community by volunteering with the Pennbyrn Retirement Community, Homes For Our Troops and Carson Stout Boys & Girls Club.

"As a coaching staff we feel it is important for the team to develop as men and not just as baseball players" said head coach Craig Cozart. "Giving back to the community is an important part of their education. It is our hope that they add to the community in a positive way but are also rewarded and learn from the work they do.'1

In the fall the team spent an evening dancing and socializing with the residents of Pennybyrn at Maryfield, a retirement living community. For the second year the team spent time with the residents at their Homecoming Dance.

In January, the team volunteered with Homes For Our Troops, a nonprofit group that builds homes for severely injured veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Homes For Our Troops built a house in Thomasville for Army Sergeant Joe Smith who suffered a spinal-cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down during his deployment to Afghanistan six years ago.
